The World Snow Festival in Grindelwald returns from January 19 to 24, 2026, transforming the Eiger village into a spectacular open-air museum of snow art. International artists will carve monumental figures and sculptures from three-metre-high blocks of snow, creating ephemeral masterpieces that blend creativity with the alpine landscape.

Since its beginnings in 1983, when Japanese artists sculpted a giant Heidi, the festival has grown into one of Switzerland’s most fascinating winter events. Each year, Grindelwald welcomes sculptors and visitors from around the globe to witness the transformation of the town square into a gallery of icy imagination. The 2026 edition, themed “Myths and Legends,” promises dramatic and enchanting works inspired by folklore, fantasy, and cultural storytelling.

Visitors can stroll through the snowy streets, admire the sculptures illuminated at night, and enjoy the festive atmosphere with local food, music, and alpine hospitality. The event is free to attend, making it a highlight of the winter season in the Bernese Oberland.
