The 42nd Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival will transform Harbin into a dazzling winter wonderland from 5 January to late February 2026, with pre-opening access to the ice and snow sculptures in late December. It is recognized as the world’s largest ice and snow festival, attracting millions of visitors each year.

The festival’s centerpiece is Harbin Ice and Snow World, a vast “Ice Disneyland” covering one million square meters, featuring monumental ice palaces, illuminated sculptures, and activities such as skating, skiing, and ice biking. Visitors can also enjoy performances, fireworks, and themed shows. Another highlight is the Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo, where artists from around the world create giant snow sculptures best viewed in daylight. For families, Zhaolin Park Ice Lantern Art Fair offers over 300 smaller illuminated sculptures, slides, and playful installations, while the Songhua River Ice Carnival hosts winter sports and games on the frozen river.

The best times to visit vary: around Christmas for early access, New Year’s Eve for fireworks, and January 5th for the grand opening ceremony. To avoid crowds, mid-January and February are recommended, when the sculptures are fully established but visitor numbers are lower.
